MTN increases talk time, data charges by 1% over NHI Levy

MTN Ghana says it is adjusting talk time and data charges following a 1% increment in National Health Insurance Levy.

The increment takes effect on May 1, 2021.

“Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana) wishes to inform you all that following the introduction of Covid-19 Health recovery Levy, which has resulted in a 1% increase National Health Insurance Levy, talk time/ data charges have been adjusted to affect the tax change,” the telecommunication giant said in a statement on Friday, April 30, 2021.

Reading the 2021 Budget Statement, the Caretaker Minister of Finance, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, said the government intends to introduce new taxes as part of revenue measures to help the economy recover.

He said Sanitation and Pollution Levy of 10 pesewas will be incorporated into the proposed fuel levy

This new rate will be charged on the price per litre of petrol/diesel under the Energy Sector Levies Act (ESLA).

Also, the government is also introducing a Covid-19 Health Levy of 1% on VAT, Flat Rate Scheme (VFRS), and a 1% on National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL).
