The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) continues to provide meals for children in basic schools across the country each day.
In the 2020/2021 academic year up to 8, 683 basic schools benefited from the programme.
This constituent a total of 2,980,000 school children who were provided with the government’s free meals.
Presenting the 2021 budget statement Friday, the caretaker Minister of Finance said, “Mr. Speaker, the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) provided one hot nutritious meal per school day for children in basic schools. A total of 2,980,000 pupils in 8,683 basic schools benefited from the programme in 2020. This will continue in 2021.175.”
In addition, the Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency indicated the Gender, Children and Social Protection Ministry being a priority to the President Nana Akufo-Addo-led government it fed many children through the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP).
“Mr Speaker, the LEAP programme made payments to 335,013 households benefiting 1,451,747 individuals nationwide in 2020, demonstrating the Government’s care for all its citizens. In 2021, the Ministry will validate data to scale up the beneficiary households from 335,013 to 3”
