Parliament begins debate on mid-year budget review

The Parliament of Ghana today, Friday, July 30, 2021,began the debate on the 2021 mid-year budget review.

The Ranking Member on Finance Committee and MP for Ejumako/Enyan/Esiam, Cassiel Ato Forson, who began the debate said, per what the Finance Minister presented on Thursday simple means that, the New Patriotic Party government has decided to piled on more debt onto our economy

He stated that in the year 2021, government is still borrowing and considering the way and manner government is borrowing.

Ghana’s Public debt would hit 360 billion Ghana cedis by the end of December 2021, which implies that, the country’s public debt will hit 82% of the GDP.

Responding the comments by the Ranking Member, Chairman on Finance Committee and MP for Obuasi West, Kwaku Agyeman Kwateng, said despite the several challenges and hardship COVID-19 has imposed on the economy, government is determine to ensure that the path to recovery would be less painful.

He added that the government is committed to preserve all the social interventions and many developmental projects promised to Ghanaians without necessarily taxing more.
