Despite being a Christian and a Gospel musician multiple award-winning Ghanaian singer, Empress Gifty, says she listens to all music genres including secular music.
The ‘Jesus Overdo’ composer said even though she has a tight schedule she finds time to listen to songs churn out by her colleagues music in Ghana and abroad.
“I listen to all Gospel artistes. Budding musicians included. I do not discriminate. Someone sends me a link to his or her song and plead I listen and rate it. I do. If I have feedback… sometimes I recommend the person to do this, or do that. This profession is little at a time but I listen to everyone’s song,” she said on North Ridge-based Original 91.9FM Thursday.
Her comments were in response to a question asked if she listens to her colleague Ghanaian Gospel musicians.
“I listen to everyone including foreign songs. I don’t discriminate,” she told Father Innocent, the host of Original Midmorning in an interview.
On whether she listens to secular music, the Digital Artiste of the Year at the 2021 3Music Awards answered in the affirmative explaining she does for learning purposes.
“I am a musician apart from the calling on life to serve the Lord. If you want to go far in your ministry you need to learn. No matter the musician’s genre he or she might be doing something right but you would be judgmental and I, Empress, is not in the position,” Empress Gifty indicated.
She further unequivocally stated that “God has not hired me as a police task force to; with a red pen and a book take into account this stuff”.
