Sensational Ghanaian musician, Dennis Nana Dwamena, who performs under the stage name KiDi, has said he’s highly confident in the credibility of various award schemes in the country.
KiDi said he has scored several awards and cannot dent the credibility of the country’s awards.
“Definitely,” KiDi said “I have won awards, so, definitely I trust it.”
His comments come a couple of weeks after losing the highly coveted Artiste of the Year award at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) to celebrated Gospel singer, Diana Antwi Hamilton.
Section of the public held the assertion the 27-year-old singer was cheated owing his works in the year under review makes him peerless and deserve to be adjudged the overall artiste of the year at Ghana’s music biggest night.
The irate Ghanaians took to social media to berate, Charterhouse Ghana, organisers of the award scheme.
But speaking as a guest on Playlist, the Lynx Entertainment recording artiste mentioned organisers of award schemes reward deserving winners
“If I didn’t win, I will come and say ‘forget them’ but I mean, if I have won something that obviously, I feel like I worked for,” he told Harriet Addy, show host.
When asked if sweeping the Artiste of the Year at 3Music Awards, influenced the VGMA board to deny him the rightly deserved ultimate award, the ‘Gyal Dem Sugar’ chart-topping singer answered in the negative but observed a possibility of a switch.
“To be honest, I don’t know the thorough process; I don’t know the conversations that went on. All I know is I didn’t win. No one has come out to give reasons why – the voting. This year we have not gotten to see the voting chart.”
“Maybe, I wasn’t next in line. You never know. Maybe, I was fourth. We never know. Maybe, too I know, and… you never know. It is what it is,” he said on Metro TV on Wednesday, July 8.
The singer, who announced his presence in the Ghanaian music scene with his debut single ‘Say You Love Me’ in 2017, went on to advise his colleague musicians to focus on their craft and not awards.
“Awards are beautiful when you get awards it is exciting but if you don’t get them it doesn’t take anything away from you. You are still who you are,” he stated.
