Ghanaian rapper, Michael Owusu Addo, known popularly as Sarkodie has joined growing calls for actress, Akuapem Poloo to be freed after being convicted on her own plea.
Akuapem Poloo was charged for publication of obscene materials, engaging in domestic violence namely conduct that in any way undermines another person’s privacy or integrity, and engaging in domestic violence.
The actress pleaded guilty to all three charges and was convicted on her own plea by the court presided over by Christina Cann on Wednesday.
She has been remanded into custody to undergo a pregnancy test before her sentencing.
News of Akuapem Poloo’s conviction has been received by divergent views in both traditional and social media.
Scores of her fans and concerned Ghanaians have launched the #FreeAkuapemPoloo campaign demanding for her pardon.
Multiple award-winning Tema-based rapper, Sarkodie has added his voice to the call.
Taking to micro-blogging software application, Twitter, Thursday, the ‘Can’t Let You Go’ crooner pleaded on authorities to temper mercy with justice and pardon the actress for all the charges leveled against her.
Sarkodie argued that it is a “little harsh” to sentence Akuapem Poloo christened Rosemond Alade Brown because of nude pictures taken.
“I think it’s a little harsh to separate a child from the mum just because of pictures taken. Would want to plead with the law to pardon our sister,” tweeted Sarkodie on Thursday, April 15, 2021.
