The Ashanti Reginal Health Director, Dr Emmanuel Tenkorang has announced a total of 1,557 health workers in the region have tested positive to Covid-19.
According to Dr Tenkorang, out of the total number 1,555 have recovered from the disease with two deaths.
He said it is a sign of the challenges medical staff on the frontlines of the outbreak face.
Speaking at a press conference held in Kumasi on Wednesday, 24 February 2021, the Ashanti Regional Director said the Ashanti Region, has, so far, recorded 14,263 cases of the novel coronavirus disease with 192 deaths.
Dr Tenkorang intimated that 13,633 persons who tested positive have recovered with 436 active cases.
He noted that 61 of the active cases are on admission while 377 are being managed at home.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti region is to begin the Covid-19 vaccination on March 2 as the government takes delivery of 600,000 AstraZeneca doses today.
“The first segment of the population that will receive from the 600,000 doses will be health workers, adults 60 years and over, people with underlying health conditions, frontline executive, legislature, judiciary and their related staff, frontline security personnel, some religious leaders, essential workers and teachers,” Information Minister-designate, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said in a statement Wednesday.
