To end the galamsey menace destroying water bodies and lives, the Ghana Armed Forces has begun the fourth phase of Operation Halt II in the Western Region.
A statement released by the Ministry of Information signed by the sector minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, on Thursday, May 27, 2021, said the fourth phase focuses on illegal mining on the River Ankobra and its tributaries.
“The new phase of phase of the operation focuses on the River Ankobra and its tributaries,” the statement sighted by Metro News said.
According to Oppong Nkrumah, 401 military personnel have been deployed for the operation which targets removing all persons and logistics involved in mining from water bodies.
Oppong Nkrumah, however, cautioned the general public to stay away from mining in the water bodies to avoid incurring the wrath of the military personnel.
