Covid-19 vaccine: Speaker, MPS take jab

Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin together with the entire Members of Parliament have begun taking Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine against Covid-19.

The Parliamentary staff will also take turn to be vaccinated.

Conversation and anger towards Covid-19 vaccines have been renewed in Ghana following the arrival of 600, 000 doses of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines made by the Serum Institute of India (Covishield) on Wednesday, 24 February 2021 amidst a surge in Covid-19 cases in the country.

Alban Bagbin said the vaccine currently being rollout in 43 districts is safe adding that nobody should doubt its efficacy.

The Speaker urged the public to pay no heeds to myths, controversies and falsehood aimed at discouraging people on the usefulness and benefit of COVID-19 vaccines.

He further called on MPs to take the vaccine in order to help build people’s confidence in the vaccines.

“I believe that if we go through this process, we will be safe, we will be secure and we will be healthier.”

“So I want to encourage everybody, particularly my colleagues in Parliament, Members of Parliament and the staff of Parliament to come for it. It is very easy. Nobody should have any fears at all,” said.the Speaker after taking the vaccine on Saturday.
