Popular Ghanaian broadcaster, Kaakyire Appea-Apreku has divulged that he was lured into hosting political shows, saying he was a drive time host.
He told Original News on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, when he was approached on the rationale behind ditching politics to host a religious program.
Kaakyire hosts Original Worship on Original 91.9FM from 1 pm to 3 pm each weekday.
Prior to joining the Ignite Media Group family, he had served as the political show host for several radio stations across the country, including; Pink FM in Kasoa, Power FM in Accra, Angel FM in Kumasi, Space FM in Tarkwa, and a host of others.
According to him, he was one of the pioneers of live worship on Ghana radio and has hosted several top-notch gospel singers on his show.
Citing Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Tagoe Sisters, Amy Newman, and Comfort Ano as part of the numerous established singers who passed through on his Christian-oriented show back in the day, he revealed his Otafiregya sobriquet was given to him by a pastor because of the dynamism and Christian elites he exhibited during his early days on radio as gospel host.
He also disclosed that despite being known as a broadcast journalist he has pastored about five churches in his ministry although he was economical intimating, he’s an ordained minister of the gospel.
Born Seth Appea Apreku Owiredu, Kaakyire noted that doing a church program on radio connotes he’s responding to God’s calling on his life.
When asked if he would return to hosting political shows, the highly respected presenter simply replied, “I’m afraid not”. – a lucid indication hosting political shows will forever remain in his past.
