Kpone will be Ghana’s Las Vegas – Minister expresses as Kpone Landfill Site Project progresses

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr. Henry Quartey, has described the ongoing Kpone Landfill project as a huge investment and one which will inure to the benefit of the Kpone Katamanso Municipality.

Speaking at an inspection tour on the progress of work at the Kpone Landfill site on Friday, April 9, 2021, Mr. Quartey acknowledged the efforts of Mrs. Dorcas Dapaah, the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, stressing that “she has been the driving force behind the President’s vision in the sanitation sector.”

With about seven months to the completion of decommissioning and re-engineering works at the Kpone Landfill Site in Accra, Mr. Quartey charged the contractor to expedite work to see to the successful completion of the project.

“If you look at the pictures behind me, you will appreciate the hard work, the effort, and the sacrifices that have been put in this for us to get to where we are today. Behind me is the impression of how the final work will look like. I was telling the Minister we are going to have a Las Vegas in Kpone. A very nice tourist attraction”.

While commending waste management giant, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, for the work done so far, he appealed to the Sanitation and Water Resources Minister to consider replicating the same at all the landfill sites in the national capital.

“Let us commend the Minister and all who together are on the course to make this a success. As Oliver Twist will say, we will rather appeal to the Minister to replicate same across all the landfill sites, probably in Accra, so, [I], the Regional Minister, can also attach myself to her in taking the credit,” he averred.
