The Assembly Member for Ashaiman Official Town, Nii Ayiku Kabutey, has chided NADMO over what he describes as lack of empathy towards the citizenry during a disaster.
According to him, for over 3 to 4 years now, officials of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) have neglected them of relief items anytime they are faced by disaster.
“The problem we are facing is, for about 3 or 4 years ago, NADMO always comes to make promises when there’s a disaster but no support comes from them” he lamented bitterly.
Speaking to Original News’ Tema Correspondent, Augustine Ahiabor on Thursday July 22, 2021 at KBT area of Ashaiman Official Town where four shops were razed down by fire and destroyed properties running into millions of Ghana cedis as owners looked on helplessly, the Assembly Member noted that;
“The suffering traders pay property rate and taxes but they receive no support of relief items from government when in distress, this is very worrying. Government should please come to the aid of the traders”.
Joyce Koletey who sells second-hand clothing and cooking utensils who couldn’t hide her tears narrated that;
“I was called this dawn around 2 am that my shop is on fire and I have lost everything. Things amounting to GH25,000 (bedsheets, footwears, wheelchairs, shirts, blenders including money) and everything is brunt to ashes. Please help me, I have no light inside but I don’t know the cause of the fire, government should please help me so my children and I can also eat. I went for loans to start the business”.
