Police force must be unbiased in their approach – Sammy Gyamfi

Mr. Sammy Gyamfi of the NDC has again asked the newly appointed IGP to be unbiased in his approach to his duty stressing that we need a police service that will be ruthless in their work awarding punishment where necessary.

The Communications Officer for the opposition was giving his detailed expectations of COP Dampare as he assumes office amidst the latest security concerns in the country.

During his submission on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Thursday, July 22, 2021, Mr, Sammy Gyamfi said the new IGP must not show favoritism in his work.

“Again we need a police service that will go after crime and corruption no matter whose ox is gone. No matter who is involved and their positions or backgrounds,” he stated.

He said the country needs a police force that will be fair in the discharge of their duties stating

“We need a police service that will apply the law across the board and not in a selective manner as we have seen in recent times. A police service that will threaten all citizens as under the law and not some citizens as under the law and others as above the law,” he noted.

The NDC spokesman was of the view that desires a police force that will chase crime operators adding “a police force that will investigate, punish same no matter who is involved whether it is a minister, whether it is a President and all that.”

Mr. Gyamfi said the nation must eschew a police force that will use their offices to promote crime calling on the new IGP not to tow the path of his predecessors.

“Not police officers who will use the police service to cover up crimes as we saw under TIwaa Addo- Danquah, we’ve seen under some CID heads and some IGP’s in recent times. So he has a lot to do,” he emphasized.
