Police launch investigations into lynching of a man at Awutu Bereku

The Awutu Bereku Police Command in the Central Region has commenced investigations into the alleged lynching of a young man in the Awutu Senya East District.

The Police said the deceased was lynched after snatching a Royal Motor Bike from one Richard Nkansah believed to be a commercial motor rider in the neighborhood on Tuesday morning around 6:40 am.

A statement signed by the Deputy Public Relations Officer, Ghana Police Service, Central Region, Sergeant  Isaac Evans Ettie, explained that the deceased in an attempt to snatch the motorbike, sprayed a substance into the eyes of the motor rider and made way with it but, and he was subsequently caught and lynched by a mob.

“On 16-03-2021 at 6:40 am, Awutu Bereku Police received a report that a young man had sprayed a substance into the eyes of one Richard Nkansah and had snatched his unregistered Royal Motorbike from him.”

“Soon after that, Awutu Bereku Police received a distress call that a man has been caught and he’s being beaten by a mob at Eye Clinic Awutu Bereku,” the Police said in a statement copied to Original News.

According to Sergeant Ettie, security officers were dispatched to the scene and rescued the victim who had sustained wounds all over his body.

“Victim was rushed to Awutu Bereku Health Centre but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival,” Sgt. Ettie added.

The statement further stated, “The Complainant who was receiving treatment at the same Health Centre identified the victim as the one who attacked and snatched his motorbike from him.”

The body of the deceased has been deposited at Winneba Mortuary awaiting autopsy.

The Police said, “investigation is still ongoing.”

No arrest has been made yet.
