Yaw Osafo Marfo has been appointed Senior Presidential Advisor.
This is according to the immediate past Senior Minister in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s first tenure.
He disclosed during a meeting at Birim Central Municipal Assembly in Akyem Oda in the Eastern Region.
Mr. Osafo Marfo said he was appointed to the position in an appointment letter made available to him last week.
His appointment to the top position comes as a surprise especially despite informing President Akufo-Addo of his decision to retire and focus on other equally important issues.
Born 1942, the 79-year-old served as the Senior Minister of the Republic of Ghana in the Akufo-Addo Administration, since 2017.
Before his office was scrapped in the second term of the Akufo-Addo after its creation was greeted with a barrage of criticism.
CSOs and opinion leaders described the Senior Minister Office as a waste of the taxpayers’ funds and urged the government to scrap it.
Prior to his appointment, he was a Member of Parliament for Akim Oda from 1997 to 2009 and previously served as Finance Minister and in other cabinet roles in the Kufuor administration between 2001 and 2009.
