Residents of Sahara, Dansoman in Accra today will embark on a demonstration exercise to demand a halt of power cuts in the area.
Dubbed #FixOurLight the protestors will hit the principal streets of Sahara with placards to register their dissatisfaction with the development.
The protest comes on the heels of five days without electricity supply in the area worsening the plight of the residents.
A statement signed by the spokesperson for a concerned residents group called Concerned Citizens of Sahara (CCS), Kofi Otuo Bekoe, accused the county’s power supplying company of biased and treating them unfairly.
Dated June 30, the statement said they have planned to hit the streets on Thursday to protest against the Electricity Company of Ghana for sleeping on their job and the government for failing to address their plight despite calls on the Municipal Chief Executive Officer and the Member of Parliament for the area.
Though there’s an ongoing load shedding exercise in parts of Accra, the group stated in its statement that blackout experienced in Sahara, Dansoman has nothing to do with the exercise insisting they’re being neglected.
Despite the public gathering restrictions that prohibit demonstration and any other social event, the Citizens of Sahara insist it will register its grievances to the authorities tomorrow.
Persons affected by the power outages have also been urged to join the protest in order to achieve maximum success.
The statement further said all covid-19 safety protocols will be observed to prevent the spread of the virus that has caused a global scourge and negatively impacted the world’s economy.
Little is known if they have notified the Ghana Police Service about the intended protest.
