The Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa West Constituency on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Pater Lanchene Toobu, has urged Ghanaians to prioritised their personal security to avoid possible danger.
Mr. Toobu said due to the current state of the country’s security the citizenry must be security conscious to curb down criminal activities leading to loss of lives and properties in the country
“You must take your personal security seriously. There are tensions. Let your personal security be a priority. We have a lackadaisical approach too much in Ghana. No one cares. You’d see a 7-year-old child sent on an errand if you ask where her mother is; she’d tell you she’s in the house and father gone to work. If you enquire about her mission she’d say she’s on her way to a friend’s house and she has been sent. What she never returns? The sender of the little child should ask herself the implication and exposure of danger? If the worst happens the government is called upon. What steps did you take as a responsible Ghanaian? We are too much exposed to insecurity by own actions,” he said on Original 91,9FM’s Adwenekasa socio-political morning show on Tuesday, April 13, 2021.
In an interview with Kwaku Owusu Adjei, the former Executive Secretary to the immediate-past Inspector General of Police (IGP) David Asante Apeatu, indicated that making individual security issues a top priority will strengthen Ghana’s national security adding that eradicating crime is everyone’s responsibility.
“The security apparatus functions well when we have citizens who are curious about their conscious security” he observed.
“A car will hit someone and an eyewitness will account he saw the said car; but when you ask of the number; he cannot tell, however, say the driver of the car rushed to see the victim before he drove off. Ask again the colour of the driver’s shirt and he’d reply; he doesn’t remember. The same way asks of the driver’s height; he wouldn’t remember. You do not remember anything but you are the eyewitness. I think we have to be conscious,” Mr. Toobu added.
Tensions have heightened in the sixteen regions following several reported cases of robbery across the country in recent weeks.
Yesterday, a man and his wife were robbed at gunpoint by suspected armed robbers at Takoradi Amanful.
Eyewitnesses report the couple has gone to the bank to withdraw some money.
Unfortunately, the robbers began trailing them after they drove away from the bank premises in their private vehicle.
Upon reaching Amanful East, a suburb of Takoradi the victims realised that they were being followed by the robbers. They counted four men who were following them on two motorbikes.
