Three health workers in Police grips for stealing COVID-19 vaccines

Three health officials have been arrested by the Greater Accra Police Command for stealing and subsequently selling COVID-19 vaccines.

The three in all stole 36 vials of the covishield being used to vaccinate people against the novel coronavirus disease.

Stephen Dzisenu, a 37-year-old Disease Control Officer of the Greater Accra Regional was first arrested for stealing 36 vials of Covishield.

A 42-year-old Cosmos Allotey an Occupational Health and Safety Officer received the stolen Covishield from Dzisenu. Allotey allegedly administered the vaccines at a cost of GHs 200.00 per jab.

Joseph Knight Gaisie, a Project Assistant and a former Laboratory Technician at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital is also being held for abetment of crime.

Appearing before the Accra Circuit Court on Friday, though charges of the accused were not read out to them, the facts of the case were read out in open court.

The court presided over by Mrs. Afia Owusuaa upon hearing the arguments of counsels for the accusers and persecutor remained the three suspects into lawful custody to reappear on April 1.

Efforts are underway to arrest other culprits.
