UEA Police arrest 5 Ghanaians for trafficking illicit drugs

Between January and March this year, some five persons travelling from Ghana to the United Arab Emirates (UEA) were arrested for attempting to traffick marijuana.

All the five arrested persons were Ghanaian nationals.

This was disclosed by the Ghana Consulate-General in Dubai on Wednesday, April 21, 2021.

“The sad part of it is that all the parcels containing the weed were given to them by the agents in Ghana, who acquired the UAE visa for them, with instructions to them to give the parcels to their counterpart agents in the UAE on arrival,” the statement said.

It added that “It is also interesting to know that the weed is normally hidden in food items”.

The statement noted that one of the five arrested persons currently serving a 10-year jail term was unaware he was carrying a weed parcel from his agents to their accomplice.

In light of this, the consulate advised persons travelling to the United Arab Emirates to be vigilant when accepting parcels to be delivered to others.
