As part of efforts to sustain good sanitation and the ‘Let’s Accra Work’ agenda, giant waste management company, Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL), has presented two Toyota HiAce vehicles to the Greater Accra Regional Co-Ordination Council [RCC].
The move is to support the council’s efforts in keeping the national capital clean which is in line with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s vision of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa.
The 12 minivan seater vehicles, white in color were branded with a logo of “Let’s Make Accra Work. I need You, You Need Me’ with sirens on both to aid in easy movement.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, last month launched a campaign dubbed: ‘Let’s Make Accra Work’. This is a non-partisan agenda focused on ensuring the socio-economic development of the region.
Making a presentation at the forecourt of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, the Managing Director of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Mrs. Gloria Opoku Anti, stated that “As you are all aware, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, being the main service provider when it comes to environmental and sanitation issues, we need to come on board to support this great initiative of ‘Let’s Make Accra Work’ which has been launched by the Regional Minister [Henry Quartey].
According to her, “most importantly is the fact that we are committed to ensuring that our communities are clean, green, and healthy. The story must be told, so, the donation of these buses is in response to the request by the RCC for us to support in getting transportation for the office of the Regional Minister and the Regional Co-ordinating Council”.
She described the donation as “a kind gesture from Zoomlion to support the initiative of RCC”.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey who received the buses stated that “Indeed, by the grace of God they [vehicles] are going to help, we will put them to good use. I engaged Mr. Agyepong who is the Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies because, the ‘Let’s Make Accra Work’ project itself has sanitation, security, health, education, and more importantly the indiscipline in the region. I say war against indiscipline”.
Mr. Quartey pledged to put the vehicles in good use, “we want to assure the management of Zoomlion that we will put these vehicles to good use, and also use the same medium to appeal to Ghanaians who also may want to support this worthy course to contact the RCC and also contribute their widows might for God and country”.
“Knowing very well that we will be doing a lot of rounds and fieldwork, I made an appeal to him [Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong], to support the regional coordinating council with buses in order to make it very convenient or easier for us to go round” he said.
“One is to convey the media and the RCC and its technical staff including myself will be in one bus, indeed when I spoke to him, he asked me to give him one week and by the fourth day he had delivered the vehicles here,” he said with joy.
While praising Zoomlion Ghana Limited for the presentation, Mr. Quartey said the gesture will contribute to achieving the president’s vision of making the country clean.
“We thank the management and staff of Zoomlion Ghana limited and we pray that we will build a good working relationship with them, good collaboration and ensure that we fulfill Mr. presidents’ vision by ensuring that by the time the tenure of office is over, Accra will be the cleanest city as he said”.
