The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has named the General Secretary of the main opposition party NDC, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia as one of the Six members that constitute the Parliamentary Service Board of Ghana.
The Parliamentary Service exists to facilitate the work of Parliament through the provision of support services to the House including its committees and agencies for the purpose of ensuring the full and effective exercise of the powers of Parliament. Furthermore, it works to enhance the dignity of the House and adequately inform the public on Parliamentary activities. In discharging its functions, the Service ensures transparency, non-partisanship, and a high sense of professionalism.
The Speaker named the Six members that constitute the Parliamentary Service Board at just about 8:10 pm today, Monday, 29 March 2021.
Other members of the board are the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Leader of Government Business in Parliament, Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the Minority Leader, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, and Mr. Abraham Osei Aidoo, who is a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament and former Majority Leader.
The Parliamentary Service Board is chaired by the Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Bagbin.
Also on the board is the Clerk of Parliament, Mr. Cyril Ns
The Speaker said the decision for constituting this Parliamentary Service Board was based on advice he received from the advisory committee of Parliament which the Constitution of Ghana and the Standing orders of Parliament mandates them to assist the Speaker with advice whenever there is the need to constitute a new Parliamentary Service Board.
