Communications team member of the NPP, Nana Akomea, has said that it is in the interest of the government to clear allegations in the mind of Ghanaians by answering questions posed by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to the Finance Minister to provide financial details on the travel expenses of the President in his
Nana Akomea’s submission comes amid controversy following the president hiring a luxurious private jet during his rent trip.
Speaking on the subject on Metro T.V’s Good Morning Ghana on Friday, June 18, 2021, the former MP for Okaikwe South said “there must be a response otherwise what is in the minds of Ghanaians is what Okudzeto has put out there. It is not in the interest of government officials to leave these allegations uncontested” he added.
Nana Akomea expressed disappointment in the Finance Minister’s unavailability to answer the questions stating the latter was spotted in parliament the day before.
“If he was in parliament to answer others, why not this one?” he noted.
Mr. Akomea, however, stressed that there is little doubt that the Finance Minister is being shielded from answering the questions, arguing the Speaker of Parliament is neutral in the discharge of his duties and can summon the Finance Minister to appear before Parliament.
“You have a speaker that is not on the side of government and so there could be good reasons otherwise the speaker could pronounce dates and deadlines for the Finance Minister to provide a report to Parliament. There may be good reasons,” he added.
