NDC not against MMDCEs’ elections – Sammy Gyamfi

Sammy Gyamfi has indicated that the opposition NDC supports the idea of electing MMDCEs’ if it comes to the crunch.

He, however, expressed fears of voting along party lines which has been the trend of voting so far in our democracy

“Yeah, we support wholeheartedly, the election of MMDCEs’. Our point of departure from the New Patriotic Party has to do with the mode of election of MMDCEs. They will want MMDCEs to be elected on partisan lines (NDC-NPP). The NDC says ‘NO’ he emphasized.

Clarifying his position on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Thursday, July 29, 2021 edition of the program, he said it is so difficult to be transparent on sensitive issues due to the uncompromising stands of the two leading parties.

“Already, this NDC-NPP partisanship has so polarized the country at the national level and it is difficult to achieve consensus on very important national issues,” he stated.

Mr. Sammy Gyamfi indicated that it is common knowledge that electorates at party strongholds will vote along those lines.

“For example, when there is an NDC President in office, you hold assembly elections in a region like Ashanti Region. Obviously, more than eighty percent of the Assembly Members and the MMDCEs’ you are going to elect on a partisan basis in the Ashanti Region will be from the NPP because of the electoral dynamics in that region. The same applies to Volta Region in the case of an NPP President being in office,” he emphasized.
