Assin Central lawmaker, Kennedy Agyapong says the governing New Patriotic Party is heading towards an opposition with the current attitude of its members.
The NPP legislator indicated that the NPP losing the speakership race to NDC’s Alban Kingsford Bagbin is a clear indication that the party is failing to take lessons from their 2020 losses.
“What magic would I perform when you advise your party members and they don’t listen, and they voted skirt and blouse. What do you expect?” Mr. Agyapong told Kwaku Owusu Adjei Thursday.
“Whatever I had to say, I said it before the elections, and the party folks refused to listen, so, it is a lesson to us all,” he added.
Mr. Agyapong also noted that the premature announcing of presidential ambitions by possible flagbearership hopefuls is of bad fate indicating that such actions are hurting the party.
He observed that the growing factions in the NPP is hindering the progress of the party and it might contribute to their loss in the next general elections.
“I have realized things are not right with the party owing that how they are acting they are causing problems with the Alan Kyerematern and Dr. Bawumia factions”
The Assin Central lawmaker, however, urged the party to halt the premature campaigns and focus on the development of Ghana.
“Judging from what is happening in the party we haven’t changed from the loses of the 2020 election.
“Our attitude which influenced the skirt and blouse votes hasn’t changed and our leaders are making no efforts to change them, so, I see opposition is staring at us and greedy and ambition is preventing us from realizing. Many have been blinded by the factions. It is dangerous for us,” Mr. Agyapong noted.
