Lawyer Godwin Tamakloe has emphasized that the $170 judgment that the nation has to deal with has to do with the gross irresponsibility and insensitivity on the part of the government stating the nation can renegotiate with the energy company even at this eleventh hour.
The legal counsel for the NDC was buttressing his points and making prescriptions on the backdrop of a press conference organized by his party, saying considering the matter on all fronts, the government must be blamed for the financial disaster.
“The point we are making relating to yesterday’s press conference is that, if you begin to look at all the material details, one comes to one irresistible conclusion that the Akuffo Addo/Bawumia administration deliberately in a most reckless and unconscionable manner plunged this republic into a mess whereupon we are now going to look for $170million to do this,” he added.
Contributing to Tuesday, June 29, 2021, Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Mr. Godwin Tamakloe said the matter is not too late and that the re-negotiation with the energy company is not far-fetched.
“I have a simple solution to this and I think we need to have a conversation around it now. We need to go back and engage the officers around GPGC because the factory is at Tema just here,” he noted.
He said even though the contract was signed, the second party to the contract has not yet delivered in full.
“They’ve worked to a certain stage. They have not even produced one megawatt of power. We are now going to give them this amount of money. So we can engage them,” he added.
He was of the opinion that the nation should be wise enough to let GPGC complete the project to avoid the heavy financial loss, stressing “Having terminated and you getting this amount of money, instead of paying you for no work done, go ahead complete the plant and generate the power for us. The reason why am saying this is that it becomes a win-win situation. I’m speaking as a Ghanaian because we need to find a solution to the situation,” he added.
