We want true State of the Nation Address – John Jinapor

Yapei Kusawgu lawmaker, John Jinapor says he is expecting President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his State of the Nation Address later today deliver a message that reflects the reality on the ground.

According to him, the governing New Patriotic Party has an estranged relationship with the truth adding that the government has a culture of telling the Ghanaian people the opposite of the truth.

“We want him to tell the truth. Last year, the President said the economy is doing well but that wasn’t the case. We hope the President is honest in his address.’

“We have high debts. If we pay off our lingering debts we have nothing,” he told Original FM’s Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Adwenekasa show.

 President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will deliver his first State of the Nation Address  (SONA) for his second term in office at 1 pm.

The nation’s address is expected at 1 pm.

The presentation is in line with article 67 of the 1992 Constitution which states that “the President shall, at the beginning of each session of Parliament and before the dissolution of Parliament, deliver to Parliament a message on the state of the nation”.

“The House will be privileged to receive the President who is obligated to deliver the State of the Nation Address. His Excellency has given an indication to me that he is ready to do the obligation on Tuesday 9th March 2021,” the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin told the House on March 2, 2021.

The address will be an overview of plans for his second term in office having won the 2020 presidential election.
