Former Kumbungu lawmaker Ras Mubarak has described as untenable reasons given by the Minority in Parliament for the approval of Ken Ofori-Atta as Finance Minister.
According to him, the reasons the NDC MPs gave for the approval of the Finance Minister do not hold water and unreservedly absurd.
“Apparently I didn’t follow the vetting but from the debate on the floor yesterday, there were some things; some questions he was asked and he said he’ll furnish Parliament with further and better particulars. If he hadn’t submitted them; my point is why the rush in approving him?” he quizzed in an interview with Kwaku Owusu Adjei Tuesday.
Speaking on Adwenekasa on Original 91.9FM, Ras Mubarak further noted that “Parliament has oversight responsibility to overlook the work of the executive before approval is given. The argument the Minority leader adduced in approving the Finance Minister does not make sense.”
He questioned whether the Minority Leader would hand over his car to a driver who out of sheer incompetence or negligence crashed his car.
He stressed that if the economy is messed up further by the person who crashed it initially as we are made to believe, it is ordinary Ghanaian on the street who suffers and not the politician who gets some things tax-free. If this were meant to assuage the base, it has backfired big time. We are not buying it”.
He noted that the responses from the minority side is unthinkable and do not add up.
